Yesterday was a day for People United for Global Change, a day when people all over the world gathered together in cities to stand together, to rally, to share in this growing movement, united in a common cause and to take back the world from the greedy oppression of the 1%. We are the 99% and we are ready for change!
I took part in the Occupy Nelson movement here at home in the B.C. Canada. The estimate is that over 500 people were there, from our small 100, 000 population! What a turn-out! This was my first protest and it was such a wonderful first experience. I am fortunate to live in a town where most of the people here already know that love is the answer and not to focus on fear or the negativities around us--focus on the positive change, the global change for the better of ourselves and of our planet.
We rallied at City Hall where there were speeches and music and community. From there, we marched through our downtown area, taking over the streets entirely with the beats of bongo drums, guitars, and the cheering of our unity. For those that didn't know about this event, I am certain they will be talking about it over the next several weeks as more and more people become aware of this movement and join in. And why not? We are the 99% and unless you are content to remain sleeping and blinded under the corporate thumb of the 1% then you know how true and real it is that this is our time to make things right and just and equal. Nature was even in our favor, the sun was shining and the air was warm, a perfect day for mobilization.
I hope you all took part in the Occupy events in your city if there were any or else travelled to the closest one or are doing your part in some form or another. This is just the beginning. I am very excited to see what happens from here! Don't keep this as a single day of action, keep the ReLOVEution going! Keep this movement going and let's keep up the momentum!
