"There are no ordinary moments." ~Way of the Peaceful Warrior

{this moment} - a Friday ritual. A photo (few) capturing moments from the week. Simple, special, extraordinary moments. Moments I want to pause, savor and remember.

If you're inspired to do the same, leave a link to your 'moment' in the comments for all to find and see.
. . . . . . . . . .

Still soooo busy! But here are my moments from the past two weeks! :)

[Thanks to my friend Tam for the awesome photos above!]

Weekly "Smile Up":

I was doing these "weekly smile-ups" a couple years ago and they were a lot of fun to do and I'd like to start them up again. I figure doing them along with the weekly "this moment" posts is fitting and quite perfect--since "this moment" is all about appreciating your life and everything around you and that's exactly what the "weekly smile-up" posts are about too! Sooooo, getting back into this lovely routine! :)

Celebrated Cory's birthday last weekend at the Kaslo Skatepark with amazing friends!
Bonfires on the lake!!
Getting lots of work done so I can feel better heading into market season!
Getting back in touch with both my Grandmas in Europe. It's been much too long!
Wishing my little brother a happy birthday (he shares the same birthday as Cory, it's really sweet).
Tea dates with my bestie!
Sitting on the kitchen counter talking and hanging out with my hubby (random beautiful moment).
Finally getting a bookshelf for my work room!
Watching the sun go down from our big bright windows in our sunroom.
Writing and Drawing up the good copy of the first chapter of my book!!

Embrace who you are!! Put yourself in a good mood the moment you wake up! It's good to spend time on yourself, just for yourself--and it's not selfish so don't feel guilty for it!   People will always try to take credit for things you do--do them anyway and don't bother with silly people. PMA PMA PMA!!

Hope you're all having a beautiful wonderful blissful week! Tell me about your lovely weeks! Tell me about your "Weekly Smile Up" and "This Moment"! Pretty please? :)

☺ Bianca's "Recovery" Tips to Happiness ☺

One day I had hoped to write a mini auto-biography of all the things I went through in my life. I wanted my story to be an example to others to show that it doesn't matter what has happened in your life, you can always make a recovery and be Happy. But, I started to write this story, and it just made me sad. It wasn't the inspiring story that I felt that I would be writing. Understandably, I don't like dwelling on the past. It's not that I want to just forget it ever happened, but I no longer dwell on it and focus on the negatives. I am so incredibly grateful for everything that has happened to me, it all made me who I am today and I love love love who I am today. I am very very grateful for my past and that was a huge step in recovering to happiness.
I didn't always feel this way about my past, not by a long shot. I will never write an autobiography. There is no point in retelling another depressing story. That doesn't make others feel good. I understand that it's inspiring to know that anyone can be happy, but I see the people who read all these depressing life stories because it's "inspiring" to hear other people's hard lives and know that they recovered, and those people are not happy people. If you spend so much of your time reading about other people's sad lives then it's not exactly going to fill you with a sense of happiness. Hope, maybe. But hope is nothing if you don't make changes in your life and shift your attention onto the positive. This is why I will never write an autobiography.
I will however tell you this, to give you an understanding of where I came from, who I was then, and who I am now.
I was depressed for years, suicidal, and used some negative outlets to "cope," again, the details and reasons to that depression I'm not diving into. I wallowed in that depression for years. I just didn't have the motivation to pick myself out of it and I didn't have the resources or inspiration to push me out either. This is why I write this blog, this is why I try to reach as many people as possible, to help others feel inspired and take that first step to better their lives.
I also hated my body, I hated everything about myself. I thought no one liked me, I had no friends, I had no self-worth. My life was a miserable mess.
*big deep breath*
Finally, I got my first push. At first they were little whispers of songs or words I'd hear, but eventually the charge to change became more burning inside of me and I finally really took the steps to better myself and my life. I took charge to Be Happy. The climb was a bit slow, I think it is for many of us when we don't really know what we're doing, we just know that we Want to feel better.
My journey towards happiness would have been much faster and smoother if I'd had a blog to read like this, if I'd sought out positive sources sooner and if I'd one all the things I'm about to mention sooner.
Today, I love myself. I love my life. I am the happiest, most optimistic, positive little butterfly you'll ever encounter. Life still has ups and downs, life always will, but when the downs come along I know how to roll with them, to use them, to learn something from, and get back on that upbeat happy path.

This post is to share with you some of the things that really helped me on my path--things that I wish I'd found sooner. All of the following points I am going to go over were essential and absolutely necessary on my healing path, which is why I am sharing them with you.

Okay, so without further ado, Bianca's "Recovery" Resources…

Books, Movies, and Reads:

Books keep our minds fresh and I recommend reading often. A lot of the information you'll read in "self-help" type books will be similar, just told in different ways. Read them all. Hearing something over and over again is Good--when this information is positive and helpful-- because it will engrave new ideas into your head and create new brain patterns and habits. Changing your attitude and life takes time and repetition of these new concepts. So surround yourself with positive helpful information.

"Way of the Peaceful Warrior" by Dan Millman. This book Changed my life in every way possible. It was the book that made the light go on. The book that changed everything. The book that taught me all of my valuable lessons to improve my life and my attitude.

"The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne. I only read this book about a year ago, but I think it would have been very useful early on! The Law of Attraction is everything and it has definitely given me that final boost in all aspects of my life. It is a Must read!

"The Tao of Pooh" by Benjamin Hoff. Fantastic! A simple quick and fun read that teaches you the principles of Taoism through Winnie the Pooh characters. What's not to love? Again, very useful in teaching you the best ways to live life, to use whatever comes your way, and to have the right attitude.
"The Te of Piglet" a sort of "sequel" but with different valuable information.

"The Celestine Prophecy" by James Redfield. This was actually the first "spiritual" "self-improvement" book that I read. It's a fantastic read and very useful in understanding energies, human behaviours and patterns. There is a three-book series, but this was the most valuable one to me.

Here are a couple other wonderful books that I've read that I found useful that weren't necessarily the ones that "changed my life" but certainly fantastic reads that helped along the way:
"The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle
"Friendship with God" by Neale Donald Walsch

"What the Bleep do we know?" This movie is fantastic, amazing, and, again, one of those essential must-watch items. It teaches us why we do certain things, behave certain ways, and fall back into old habits. The more we know the more we can have an understanding of ourselves and therefor change ourselves. Watch it immediately!

Aside from these, I surround my life with other positive reads, like lots of positive blog posts (which is why I write this blog!), positive phrases and quotes. My Facebook, tumblr, and Pinterest are Filled to the brim with positivity, I make sure I'm around it all the time and widdle away any negatives that remain.

Changed my Diet: Cutting out foods I was allergic to, processed foods, refined sugars (this is a Huge one!), and general foods that make you feel "blah." This is essential and so many people miss this step! If you want to feel good, if you want your brain to heal, then give it energy and food it can actually use!

Exercise! I tried a few times but never really gave exercise a chance because I didn't feel like it helped. However, when my life took it's biggest boosts in overall happiness, I also started to exercise regularly. Almost every day for half an hour. But any kind of regular exercise will help. I promise.

Affirmations! I wrote down practically every single day (and still do) what I wanted in life, what I was grateful for, why I loved myself, and why I loved life. I didn't even know about the Law of Attraction at the time, but this practice helps tremendously! It is Essential! It's a daily refresher for your brain, and part of changing your life to being Happy and recovering is to break on brain habits and form new ones. Writing is the key to changing those brain patterns.

Councillor Sessions. If I had never gone to a councillor I am quite convinced that I would not be where I am today. My problems, like most, were deep routed from past experiences and traumas. In order for me to get through those I had to see this councillor. I did what was called an "EMDR" session which allowed me to revisit my past and gain a better understanding and peace of mind over things that happened. I was able to let it go. I highly recommend seeing a councillor and, if you can, getting an EMDR session done. I felt like I was walking on clouds after that session, no joke!

Took 5-HTP. My endorphins were low due to years of being depressed. It happens to anyone who's depressed. I absolutely 100% disagree with medical anti-depressants. However, I do believe in natural remedies that can help you out. Things like 5-HTP and St John's Wort are amazing for bringing your endorphin levels back to a healthy level. I took 5-HTP for several years (apparently you're not supposed to take it for quite that long *oops*) and eventually, when I was ready, weened myself off. It was one of those things that I kind of felt didn't help because it was very subtle, but whenever I'd stop taking them all of a sudden I would become so easily overwhelmed and stressed out. So, remember, sometimes things may seem subtle, but they actually do help tremendously. St John's Wort I also took a few times but generally couldn't because it interferes with birth control pills.

Getting off Birth Control Pills. This was another one of those things that was essential to my healing. I don't care what anyone says, putting unnatural hormones into your body can Not be healthy for you. It messes up with your body's natural ability to do anything. They made me crazy. I tried so many different ones too. At first I didn't think they affected me negatively, but I was already depressed and emotional, so how was I supposed to tell? Going off them was one of the best steps I took. My hormones are still trying to mellow out, even after 4 years, but even so I feel tremendously better and aligned with myself.

Positive Environment: Spending too much time with the wrong people is incredibly damaging. I had to remove certain people from my life, limit contact with others, and try to surround myself with positive like-minded people. People change, friends change, family changes. Adapt and make your world positive. You don't have to be mean, you just have to do what's right for you and beneficial to your healing environment. I had some amazing people around me that were huge sources of inspiration so I highly recommend spending as much time as possible with these people who really benefit you.

Picking up a Positive Mental Attitude: Picking up the attitude of being Positive in the face of anything and everything seriously helped with all the bumps that came along. But I wasn't able to fully pick up this attitude until I did all of the points above. Do your best, it gets easier and more natural the longer you have this attitude.

These are the biggest most important changes I made in my life. Like I already said, these were all essential to my healing. And now I can look back and be so grateful for my past, my present, and anything that comes my way. All the inspirational posts I write on this blog are part of that learning and healing process that I took, the lessons that were very valuable and healing in my recovery. I write this blog to pass on those lessons to you, to help you on your own path, and to inspire you to make positive changes.
Remember to never get discouraged, to always stay hopeful, to do your best, and try to smile and focus on good things every single day. Work on your self every single day. Every day gets easier. Even if you experience the downs among the ups, you are still generally heading on a path upward, even if it can feel pretty rough sometimes. You are trying and you are working on your self, which means you're ahead from doing nothing.

I hope this helps you! Know that I love you all very very much!
Create a Nice Day! xo

♥ "The Secret" & "The Magic" by Rhonda Byrne ♥

I talk about the Law of Attraction all the time. Yet somehow I have not written up a review about the amazing book that taught me all about this Universal Law and began my deeper manifestation journey. Well, today I am going to briefly talk about two books; "The Secret" and "The Magic" both written by Rhonda Byrne.

"The Secret" I highly recommend if you are unfamiliar with the Law of Attraction. It is a beautifully written and informative book that goes through all the things we do, don't do, and accidentally do that manifest things into our lives. It gives you the knowledge and information you need to properly and efficiently use the Law of Attraction to your advantage--because whether you believe it or not, you are manifesting the things present in your life, even when you're not meaning to.
"The Secret" is also available as a movie with mostly the same information. However, I highly highly recommend reading the book as well if you are going to watch the movie. I just feel that you absorb a lot more with the book and it goes a little more in-depth. So pick up this book and make your life all that you want it to be with the power of the Law of Attraction!

Next, you should read "The Magic." What this book is is 28 days of "Magical practices" that help you to use the power of gratitude to manifest everything you want in your life. Gratitude is the greatest key in using the Law of Attraction, and let me tell you, this book will teach you all about gratitude and make you realize just how much we take for granted. The practices will have you saying "thank you" for everything and bring a happiness about that you cannot imagine. Saying "thank you" is one of the easiest and fastest ways to bring happiness into your life because it will make you realize just how much you have instead of complaining about the things you don't have that simply aren't worth your time. This book will make you grateful for everything, no matter what state your life is in, and help you to bring more things to be grateful for. I'm raving about "The Magic" because it works! Yes, I'm a positive person, but even so, I didn't realize how much gratitude I was missing out on giving and just how powerful gratitude is. This book will change your entire outlook on life, in a beautiful, magical way. ;)

I say it time and time again, if you want your life to be beautiful and happy then you have to take the right steps towards that happiness. Don't repeat the same routine and wonder why nothing is changing. Change the way you look, think, and experience life. I certainly wonder if my life could have become better faster if I'd known about the Law of Attraction sooner, but hey, things happen at the right time for a reason. Now is your time to learn about the Universal Law that governs us whether we like it (you should!) or not. So get reading, get happy, and change your life! :)
If you feel like it I've also got podcasts talking about both these books and I've also written up other articles regarding the Law of Attraction and Gratitude.

♥ Wednesday Favorites: Books; "The Tao of Pooh" & "The Te of Piglet" ♥

Almost a year ago I picked up the book "The Tao of Pooh" after having heard about the book a few times before deciding to finally pick it up (I was sold on the fact it's printed on recycled paper ^_^).  It was a simple and fun little book and an easy and fun read.
The author, Benjamin Hoff, is incredibly inspiring and points out the basic principles of Taoism through A.A. Milne's long-loved characters of the Hundred Acre Wood. Throughout the inspiring read, we are joined by Pooh Bear, Piglet, Rabbit, Owl, Tigger, Eeyore, Kanga and Roo at various points as they interact with Hoff as he writes his book. To expand upon his points, Hoff also uses quotes and excerpts from Milne's beloved books Winnie-the-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner, as well as various prominent Taoist texts, from authors such as Laozi and Zhuangzi.

It was also surprising to see how actually complex and diverse the characters of Winnie-the-Pooh actually are and just how much they have to teach us. For example, Eeeyore is the eternal pessimist who complains and frets and is unable to just be. Owl and Rabbit over-complicate problems by over-thinking and over-analyzing. Tigger thinks he can do anything. Meanwhile, Pooh Bear best just Is. Hoof regards Pooh's simpleminded nature and instinctive problem-solving methods as perfect representations of the Taoist philosophical foundation.

It is humorous, delightful, and leaves you with a smile on your face. Not only is it fun and silly, but it is incredibly helpful as well. It introduces the basic principles of Taoism and teaches them with a western approach. I didn't know much about Taoism but found the principles make more sense to me than anything I've read before. And yet the ideologies are so simple and basic that you almost feel silly for not having just realized these things for yourself. It will inspire you to live your life simply, beautifully, with appreciation and love, and to follow "The Way."

"The Te of Piglet" is the companion book to "The Tao of Pooh" and is another wonderful read. This books expands upon the concept of  'Virtue — of the small' presenting us with Piglet whom possesses great power, not only because he is small, but because he has a great heart. It also dives in deeper and gets more complex on the issues and problems of humanity and how they tend to get in the way of living in harmony with the Tao (or "Way"). It was written back in 1992 and yet reading it I felt like it should have been written yesterday. From our materialism, destruction of nature, economy over environment, war, political agendas, and society's ideologies, this book  is incredibly relevant, eye-opening, and informative. It is a slap in the face that rings truer today than ever before.
And we are still joined, of course, by the quirky characters of the Hundred Acre Wood, for both entertainment and valuable tools to teach us about Taoism, in this endearing book about life, love, happiness, and Being. It is another easy read and even more insightful than the first book.

I cannot say enough good things about both of these books. Simply put, they are Incredible! And they are Must-reads!  Benjamin Hoff is brilliant in his story-telling, his information, and, of course, his writing. But enough about my praise towards these two books, go pick up a copy and read for yourself!

☺ Inspirational: "Let Emotions Flow and then Let them Go" ☺

This is a life lesson that I believe to be incredibly valuable. I learned this from my favorite book "Way of the Peaceful Warrior." There is much of it that I cannot word better than the book itself so today's post is peppered with quotes from the book to aid in this teaching.

Emotions are generally uncontrollable. They are natural feelings that come to us in particular circumstances. The problem lies in a few things; firstly, we allow ourselves to get attached to them, to dwell on them, to build them into an unnecessary frenzy. We feel bad or embarrassed over them. We question and over-think them. But there is nothing wrong with anger or any other emotion. We need to learn to allow our feelings to flow freely.

Too often we hold onto a bad feeling; we carry it around with us all day and allow it to drain us. Let it Go!

Feel angry about something? Be angry. Upset and need to cry? Then cry. Feel how you feel, get it out of your system and go on with your day. There's no point on dwelling on something that has passed and gone. It is gone, so be done with it.

"You don't need to control emotion. Emotions are natural, like passing weather. Sometimes it's fear, sometimes sorrow or anger. Emotions are not the problem. The key is to transform the energy of emotion into constructive action."

Babies are perfect teachers in this aspect. They don't dwell on their emotions and get attached to them. They don't wonder if what they are feeling is right or wrong, they don't wonder if they should cry when feeling upset. They express themselves freely, accepting their emotions completely.

Once you're allowing your emotions to flow freely, there is a second problem that we should pay attention to, and that is how we Behave in accordance. We tend to have such an automatic, even taught, way of reacting to certain events and situations. What we tend to forget is that, while our emotions will just automatically flow, our Reactions are absolutely controllable. We just need to awaken ourselves to them, become aware, and consciously choose them.

One of my favorite examples of this is from "Way of the Peaceful Warrior"; the main character throws a fit when the rain ruins their picnic, while the "Peaceful Warriors" on the other hand laugh, dance, and roll around in the wet leaves and embrace the rain.

The Peaceful Warriors don't allow the natural flow of life, the weather, or change to interfere with their moods. They allow their emotions to flow freely and to not have those automatic reactions to particular situations. They are in control of their behaviour. They consciously decide their behaviour. And they make the best of any situation, choosing to enjoy the natural flow of life instead of resisting it.

Most of us all have these automatic predictable feelings and reactions to things.
"Someone pokes you, you get irritable; you get insulted and you react with pride and anger; someone slips, you laugh."
Most of us allow our lives to be determined by our thoughts, emotions, and past that accumulate to these predictable reactions. When you can become consciously aware of this, you can consciously create your own life.

Find the balance between feeling and reacting, to allow yourself to feel what you need to and then let it go, while practicing to consciously choose how you are going to react and behave. And this practice will help you eventually choose and change those emotions too and those predictable behavioral reactions.

"To rid yourself of old patterns, focus all your energy not on struggling with the old, but on building the new."

Another learned point is that "Anger can be a powerful tool to transform old habits and replace them with new ones. Fear and sorrow inhibit action; anger generates it."
Using your emotions to benefit yourself and others, to learn & grow from the, is a powerful key. Use anger as a motivational tool instead of the self-pity sorry act.

Ultimately, you will find the balance of controlling your own reactions and allowing your emotions to flow freely without attachment. To allow yourself to just Be.

We are Human Beings, so Be and Feel. And Let Go.

"Let Emotions flow and then let them Go."

♥ Wednesday Favorites: Book; "Way of the Peaceful Warrior" ♥

I just started re-reading this book two days ago so I figured now would be a good time to share it with you.

"Way of the Peaceful Warrior" by Dan Millman.

In case you don't know, I am absolutely in love with this Book. It is my favorite. Ever. Why? Well, it's a fun read but it also changed my life. I'm not saying that it will change yours, but hey, who knows, it might. Regardless, it has so many amazing lessons to teach. It is from this book that I learned...

To live in the Here & Now.
That Happiness is Now.
That "There are No Ordinary Moments."
The Paradoxes of the Mind; how it is our biggest downfall and distraction and how to be consciously aware of it and control it. (I really can't sum this lesson up in one line ~_^)
That "Stress happens when the Mind Resists what Is" (What you Resist, Persists).
To "Let feelings flow and then Let them Go."
That Change is a part of life and that we must embrace it rather than resist it.
"Don't Resist Life, Just do your Best."
To have a sense of Humor and laugh and enjoy life instead of falling into predictable reactions and emotions.

It is from this book I learned these key points of the book:

Paradox,
Humor,
Change,
Happiness.

Which I have tattooed on my arm. Like I said, this book changed my life. Now I have the reminder on my arm of its teachings with me always.

The book is a novel but it is based off of Dan Millman's real encounter with a mysterious character he names Socrates. Dan is an ordinary young man with a feeling that something is missing from his life, and I think it's a feeling that many of us can relate to which is why we are always chasing happiness and achievement. A chance encounter brings him to an all-night gas station where he meets Socrates, an eccentric old "warrior" who becomes his mentor and teacher on a long journey to enlightenment, life's larger meaning, and Happiness.
The story is told with heart and humor that really reaches out to the reader. I found myself laughing out loud and brought to tears by this book, that is how powerful it is. Parts of it may feel like a slap in the face, but after you get past the mind you realize it's a good thing, it's a slap in the face to wake up and open your eyes.

This book was recommended to me by someone who has had a huge influence in my life, so I am now recommending it to you. Like I said, you may not get as powerful an effect from it as I did, but hopefully you find it helpful and inspirational. I think that it is a book that everyone should read in their lives.

Wednesday Favorites: "The Legacy" by David Suzuki

This Book is a MUST-READ for anyone and everyone!

It is so good that Cory, my sister, and myself all had it read in two to three days. You simply can't put it down! Cory (my husband) never reads, he prides himself that this is actually the first book he's ever Bought himself (lol), so that's saying something!

David Suzuki is brilliant for so many reasons. His style of writing makes for an easy read, all while being incredibly informative, precise, and to the point. He pulls readers in with the urgent information he has to share and the realization we need to face regarding the tragedies we are inflicting on our home, Planet Earth. The information he provides is vital to our existence. He is upfront and honest. He is smart and wise. And he knows how to get his points across efficiently and effectively.

"In his own lifetime, David Suzuki has witnessed an explosion of scientific knowledge as well as a huge change in our relationship with the planet — a tripling of the world's population, a greatly increased ecological footprint through the global economy, and a huge growth in technological capacity. These changes have had a dire effect on Earth's ecosystems and consequently on our own well-being.
To deal with this crisis, we must realize that the laws of nature have priority over the forces of economics and that the planet simply cannot sustain unfettered growth. We must also recognize the limits of scientific reductionism and the need to adopt a more holistic point of view. Perhaps most importantly, we must join together as a single species to respond to the problems we face. Suzuki ends by saying that change begins with each of us; all it takes is imagination and a faith in the inherent generosity of Mother Earth."

"The Legacy" is incredibly inspiring. If you must only read one book in your lifetime, this should be it. After reading it, you will WANT to help the Earth and will be given an insightful look on our society, our life, and our home (Earth).

Open your eyes. Read "The Legacy" and you will understand.

Peace & Love,
xo
