♥ Barre: a Real Food Bar made with Wholesome Ingredients (Review) ♥

Protein bars are everywhere these days, in all sorts of crazy flavours and, well, a ton of questionable ingredients. There are only a handful of companies out there that actually put in the effort of creating something truly wholesome that can be enjoyed everyone and anyone.
Barre is one of those lovely little companies, run by Julia and Aaron, who set out to create such an amazing bar.

"When I set out to create Barre I did so to address my exacting needs as a dancer: it had to fuel me without weighing me down, it had to be sustaining yet easy to digest with the proper mix of nutrients, it had to contain only the finest all-natural whole foods, and, of course, it had to taste sublime. Basically, it had to be just right."
~Julia (founder of Barre)

The problem with most energy bars is that they are packed full of ingredients that may give you a boost but will end up making you crash. Some ingredients you can't even pronounce, which is always waves a red flag. But even "natural" food bars often contain bad-for-you sugars (which is the hardest one to avoid in any bar, yet one of the worst things for your body: both mentally and physically), milk proteins, gluten, and any number of allergens that will leave you drained and feeling sluggish as opposed to actually energized. It's a real shame. But that's why I was excited when I discovered Barre!
Barre was created by Julia and Aaron, both professional ballet dancers, who were tired of trying to find an energy bar that actually fit their physical and nutritional needs that would help them perform. Because dancers require an immense focus on their nutrition, it only makes sense that such a heavenly food product would be created by a ballet duo. Barre originally began when Julia was making bars to fit her own needs, and grew as friends and coworkers tried her creation and wanted more. Julia partnered up with Aaron and together they began making large batches of Barre in their kitchen and sold them to the students attending the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School summer course in mid-2010.  With the success of this venture they decided, why not go bigger?
I know I'm glad they did!

"Barre supplies all levels of the performing arts and related exercise industries from studio to stage. But this isn’t the limit of Barre’s scope: the attention to detail given to nutrition by dancers can benefit people in all walks of life, whether it be picking up your kids from school, running a 5k, or combating the dreaded midday office slump. Barre uses simple ingredients that everyone can pronounce, in their purest and most unadulterated form."

So, there's quite the science and balance and nutritional perfection that had gone into the making of Barre, but what about flavour? Let me just say they are heavenly bars that will most definitely delight. They taste good for you, in a good way! You can feel and taste the goodness of the ingredients, simple and delightful, and, as boasted, they really do provide a superb source of energy that won't leave you tired within the hour. I love eating these bars before yoga or working out, leaving my hunger perfectly satisfied while still feeling super light and ready to bend and stretch and twist. Truly a joy!
I think Barre said it best about their products and what separates them from other foods bars: Barre is not an energy bar—it is a real food bar. We designed it to contain the perfect balance of nutrients so that you can perform your best. And we did so holding true to a few important mandates: great taste, wholesome clean nutrition and convenience.

Barre is made with whole food ingredients, contains no animal products (yay vegan friendly!) and is free of common allergens such as soy and wheat, and the most common nut allergies. Barre is also high in Omega-3s with balanced energy and no refined sugar. Its natural electrolyte replacement comes from the electrolytes, the sodium, potassium and other trace minerals, which are naturally present in many of the ingredients they use.

Barre has three enticing flavours, and I just love the names of them too!
Pirouette Cinnamon Pecan is the original Barre flavor. The combination of cinnamon and pecan is so divine! It's like biting into a bar of apple crumble that met cookie dough. This is definitely my favourite of the three!
Black Swan Chocolate Berry is a lovely nutty blend with cocoa and cranberries that is rich and flavourful.
Ballerina Spirulina. Who doesn't want a bar that is packed full of nutritional goodness and tastes amazing?! I love the spirulina in this bar, adding a green so-good-for-you boost with a blend of coconut flakes in this macaroon-like bar.

But don't take my word for it, go and try them for yourself! You can find them online or at many retail locations (find them on their store locator), or if you can't find them locally, they are absolutely worth the effort of trying to get your local food coop or fitness centre to carry them!

♥ Chocholistic: Raw Healthy Chocolate! ♥

My new favourite goodies are the kind that make you feel completely guilt-free, and even good about eating them! This is where raw chocolate comes in to save the day, and, in particular, today I am sharing with you: Chocholistic!

"What makes Chocholistic special?
It’s the only chocolate you can eat everyday that will improve your health while you eat it!"

Chocholistic puts health on the table without compromising great taste. Taking it even further, these chocolates are actually Good For You! Who can complain about that? While the lovely raw creamy cacao goodness appeals to the chocolate-lovers senses, the bars are also packed with a variety of superfoods. These pack quite the tasteful punch that will have you devouring a bar within a matter of minutes, maybe even seconds… although, you'll probably take longer for all the indulging and "mmm"ing you'll be savouring. Good thing they're healthy for you, right?

What else is fantastic about Chocholistic? Well! They are Vegan (vegans rejoice!), free of common Allergens (free of Nuts, Soy, Corn, Wheat, Gluten, Dairy, And all animal products!), Raw (score!), and (drum roll please) Sugar Free.
It seems so hard to actually find chocolate that is not sweetened with terribly bad for you sugar cane or any other number of blood-spiking, mood-wrecking, sugary devils. This is something I know, because I read the labels every single time as it is next to impossible to find lovely chocolate that won't leave you feeling depressed after eating it. And, let's face it, chocolate is just too good to give up. This is why I am even more excited about Chocholistic; finally a company that cares about the ingredients they put into their lovely treats. Seriously, what's not to love?

So, what else makes Chocholistic so darn good? Well, Chocholistic is Certified Organic. Well, aside from being free of nasty sugars, Chocholistic is also free of preservatives, fillers, dairy, and does not diminish the natural health benefits of cocoa in the processing by keeping it Raw. Conventional chocolate, and most chocolates in general, are depleted of most of their nutrients, which is a shame, because cacao (or cocoa) is actually a superfood and is super duper good for you! So, now you Can have chocolate every single day, and, not only will you not feel guilty, but you will actually feel great because you're indulging on something that will actually improve your health. Wins all around!
Also, for those with candida sensitivities (which everyone should be more aware of), Chocholistic can still be enjoyed! Hoorah! Who knew you could eat chocolate and cleanse at the same time? It's like a delicious little miracle.

WHY IS CHOCHOLISTIC SO POWERFUL?
  • Sugar-Free (no dates, honey, agave, artificial sweeteners)
  • 10 Superfoods
  • Organic
  • Raw
  • Nut Free
  • Soy Free
  • Corn Free
  • Wheat and Gluten Free
  • Dairy Free
  • Non-GMO
  • Kosher
  • Fair Trade

EAT YOUR CHOCOLATE THE RIGHT WAY:
  • Powerful immune support
  • Anti-aging properties
  • Happy “medicine”
  • Weight loss support
  • Non-stimulant energy
  • Longevity food
  • Deep, dark, delicious!

WHY RAW?
Eating a food raw means you are getting all of the nutrients from that food. When you cook your food, you lose between 30 and 70% of the nutrients. Our chocolate has amazing nutrients and antioxidants because we don’t heat it past 115 degrees.
Raw foods have their own enzymes, which are incredibly important to digestion and all bodily functions. This means that the superfoods in Chocholistic will go to work in your body without pulling from your own resources.
Eating raw food can also help:
  • increase energy
  • better digestion
  • weight loss
  • less risk of disease
  • better sense of well-being
  • healthy, young looking skin
  • better sleep
  • better mood

And as if all the health benefits aren't amazing enough, or enough to convince you to try Chocholistic's bars, well, they taste absolutely amazing! Creamy delicious goodness that melts in your mouth, with tantalizing flavours like Goji Superfruit (my personal favourite), Herbal Mint, Cacao Coconut, Mocha Chip, and even their "Superslim" Bar.
So, go ahead and indulge every day. Chocolate was meant to be enjoyed with all the wonderful health benefits in tact, so indulge, enjoy, and treat yourself with Chocholistic!

☆ Got Milk? You Don't Need it. ☆

For years, we’ve been told that milk does a body good. But does it really? Though touted as the healthier option at home and in restaurants, milk has roughly the same calorie count as soda and 2% milk contains the same amount of saturated fat as french fries. Given these two facts, the correlation between high milk consumption and high rates of Type 1 diabetes and heart disease makes sense. Even though one-third of Americans are lactose intolerant, the U.S. still consumes nearly 9 times the amount of milk that China does. So why do we drink so much milk? Because cows are making more of it. With the introduction of growth hormones like rBST, milk cows are producing nearly twice as much as they did in 1970.
Milk – bad for us, bad for cows.

☆ What's Going On: Juicing ☆

Juicing is awesome! And Juice Fasts will boost your body and get you pumped and detoxing!

Benefits of Juicing:

It is recommended that we eat five servings of vegetables and three of fruits each day, but sadly most of us don't even come close to this. The average American eats only 1 1/2 servings of vegetables and, on average, no fruit on any given day.

Juicing is an easy way to get in those extra servings and to reap the benefits from fruits and vegetables. They contain essential phytochemicals that have shown to heal the body of all sorts of ailments, including cancer, heart disease, as well as some of our most common, like asthma, arthritis, and allergies.

Juicing is an easy process in which its natural vitamins, nutrients, and raw enzymes are extracted and easily absorbed by our bodies. Fresh juice is packed full of nutrients, minerals and vitamins, and raw enzymes so you're feeding your body all sorts of goodness it often lacks in your regular diet too.

Fresh juices are a tremendous source of enzymes which is why the whole "freshness" of juicing is so important. The natural enzymes found in our foods are destroyed by heat, so when you eat cooked foods, whether its grains, fruits, or vegetables, if the food is cooked at temperatures above 114 degrees, the enzymes have been destroyed by the heat. Since fruits and vegetables are juiced raw, the enzymes are still viable when you drink the juice.

Juicing also removes the indigestible fiber, meaning the nutrients are available to the body in much larger quantities than if the piece of fruit or vegetable was eaten whole. For example, because many of the nutrients are trapped in the fiber, when you eat a raw carrot, you are only able to make use of about 1% of the available beta carotene. When a carrot is juiced, removing the fiber, nearly 100% of the beta carotene can be assimilated.

Juicing literally give our bodies a boost with all of those amazing nutrients. Plus, it's much easier to juice 5 carrots than to eat them all. (I'm not saying don't eat raw carrots, in fact, eat LOTS of raw fruits and veggies as well as juicing ~_^).

Juice Fasting:

A Juice Fast is a great way to cleanse the body because the juice is rapidly digested and only uses a small amount of energy to do so, giving your body that chance to cleanse. It makes more sense to me as well as opposed to starving your body with a water fast.

To do a full juice fast, typically you should be juicing for Eight Days. Why? Because for the first couple of days your body uses stored food reserves from your liver. However, if you have never done a juice fast, or even if you have, it can be a challenge. Juicing for even one day reaps tons of benefits and still begins the detoxing.

It is important that when you stop a juice fast that you EASE back into eating solids and you should watch what you are eating thereafter. This is equally important going Into the cleanse. For the days prior and after you should avoid eating coffee, dairy products, meat, sugar, wheat, flour-products of any kind, and alcohol.

While doing a juice fast you can drink as much juice as you want! If you're hungry, juice. If you're thirsty, juice!

Drink plenty of water with any cleanse as well. Well, drink lots of water regardless of what you are doing, it is necessary for the body to keep it healthy and to upkeep proper digestion.

*Because your body has a build up of toxins, quite often you may feel undesirable side-effects while doing a cleanse. This is known as a "healing crisis". The more badly you need a cleanse, the worse the side-effects usually are. Let it be a wake up call to eat better and cleanse more ;). Just remember that while these symptoms can be uncomfortable, but they are a part of the cleansing process.

It is quite normal to feel one or more of the following; mild nausea, rashes, headaches, irritability, joint pains, or other indications of detox. You can also sometimes feel weepy or emotional--that can be years of pent up tensions releasing.

But the possible side-effects pass fairly quickly and are insignificant when you think of the rewards.
Afterwards you will be be blessed with feeling energized, clearheaded, rejuvenated and revitalized! Your body and your mind will thank you for it! Hugely!!!

To find out more about Why you should cleanse, check this post.

A little Note:

*Please note, I am not a doctor or medical practitioner of any kind, this is a sum of research and personal experience. Fasting is not for growing children, and not for anyone pregnant or nursing. People who are taking certain medications and people who have other compelling medical reasons should not fast. If you are uncertain, maybe talk to your doctor (I'm against doctors but I kinda have to suggest it ;p).*

That being said, there is argument against fasting as there is argument against anything that is healthy for you and takes money away from the medical industry. You'll learn from your own experience and consider the following as well before you buy into any of the skepticism that is being put out there.

"Each year, doctor-prescribed drugs kill more Americans than street drugs. Drug Abuse Warning Network statistics indicate less than 10,000 deaths annually from illegal drugs. 130,000 Americans actually die in hospitals each year from prescription medication." (Whitaker, J. in Health and Healing, September 1993 Supplement, Phillips Publishing, page 3)

All animals naturally use fasting as a means to heal itself when it is sick. Neat huh? ;)

Cancer patients and many others with severe illnesses have CURED themselves through juice fasting!

Now that that has been said, onto more about juicing ;)

Buy yourself a Juicer:

To make juice you WILL need a Juicer.
Juicers are needed to extract the fluid part of the vegetable along with the vitamins, minerals and enzymes it contains. This is why a blender isn't the same thing, or buying prepackaged "juice" in stores isn't the same either. There are juice bars out there though, which are always great on those lazy days when you don't feel like juicing yourself or when you are out and about.

There are tons of juicers on the market, ranging from all sorts of price-ranges. It's a good idea to spend the extra money to get a good juicer though. The "Champion" brand are one of the best, but they are also expensive! One day I will invest in one of these but until then I will recommend a "Brevelle" one for that in-between price range. They are sturdy machines and do the trick. I don't recommend the cheaper ones, I've owned one before and it was not worth it.

What to Juice:

Vegetables are best, especially carrots, cucumbers, beets, tomatoes, zucchini squash, romaine lettuce, sprouts, celery and cabbage.
Fruits are great too and can add that extra sweetness to a juice combination. Raw apples are best but its always fun to play around with different flavors.

Buy Organic vegetables and fruits to juice. I'd say that you can juice non-organics and peel them, but I don't want to even suggest it. The point of a cleanse is to detox your body and you're not doing yourself any favors by putting pesticide-heavy produce into your body--those are some of the toxins you are trying to Detox from!!!

Drink your juice right away! I mean, immediately! Fresh juice contains all those amazing food enzymes and vitamins and they are easily lost the longer the juice sits there.

Carrots are amazing to juice, they are definitely my favorite. They taste amazing and are sweet, so they go great with any combination you choose to juice.

Other fruits and veggies commonly used in juice fasts:

Vegetables - celery, cucumber, red bell pepper
Greens - parsley, kale, beet greens, chard, spinach, dandelion leaf
Cruciferous vegetables - broccoli, cabbage
Root vegetables - carrots, beets, sweet potatoes
Fruits - dark grapes, apples, lemon, Açai berry
Herbs - yucca root, fennel, spearmint, peppermint, basil, ginger, garlic, green onion, chilli pepper, fresh turmeric root, milk thistle
Wheatgrass juice, spirulina (a blue-green sea algae)

I'll say it again; there should be a gradual return to solid foods! Start with raw foods and maybe a bit of grains (quinoa or brown rice) the day after juice fasting. After that, ease into other solids but keep away from those mentioned earlier. If you want to start eating those "no-no" foods again, introduce them ONE DAY AT A TIME! This way you will actually notice the effect they have on your body. You may be amazed! Better yet, it may make you want to continue to keep them out of your diet. It's easier than it sounds, trust me. ;)

Whether you are fasting or not, a cup of fresh Juice a day is great! Your body will thank you for it too. So invest in a juicer and enjoy all the fun you can create with all those different veggie and fruit combinations!

Peace & Love,
xo

Making the Connection: You Are What You Eat.

It is ridiculous that our eating habits have become what they are. Most of us eat food almost completely void of Nutritional value. Most of us no longer prepare our own food from scratch. And even worse, most of us don't even know what it is we are eating at all.
All the while, we wonder why we are unhealthy. We wonder why we can't have or maintain a healthy body weight. We wonder why we're tired all the time. Why we get sick all the time. Why our stomachs never feel quite right. Why we have pimples. Why we have headaches. And we'll place the blame everywhere we can possibly think of before looking at our dinner plates. But that is the answer right there; FOOD!

Again, most of us can hardly really say what we eat is even Food anymore, it's any wonder we can actually even function.

That aside, if your diet resembles any of the following, it may be time to rethink your eating habits...

Do you eat white bread and/or other white flour products? White rice? White sugar? All of these have been stripped of their nutrition in a highly unnatural refining process.
Do you drink coffee every day? Or worse, several cups a day?
Do you eat pre-packaged meals and foods? How about fast foods? Potato chips and candy? Consume dairy and meat every single day? Drink alcohol every weekend?
Do you get fiver servings of fruits and veggies every day? Do you drink 8 glasses of water a day?

It's time to wake up and make the connection; You are what you Eat! Filling your body with all this crap will catch up with you. It already is but most of you won't admit it. It will also suck away your energy and leave you unhappy, moody, and feeling "blah".

If you say you can't change you diet or that it's too hard, suck it up princess. How do you even know if you won't try?
You don't have to starve yourself. You don't have to sacrifice yummy tasting food. You don;t even have to give up treats. You just have to switch your diet around, get adventurous, try new things, and give your taste buds a chance to return to normal. Give those taste buds the time to let go of addictive msg and other food additives that trick your brain into believing all that junk tastes good. Because once you stop eating that stuff, you will soon realize that it really doesn't taste good at all!

So make the connection. If you want to be happy, healthy, and have your energy back, then change your diet. Remember, a happy tummy is a happy mind and self.

You are what you eat.
Wake up and smell...steer clear of the coffee. ;)

Peace & Love,
xo

VEGETARIAN VS CARNIVORES...which is healthier?

This week's blog is a question that quite literally irks my nerves. I have a friend that strongly believed that being Vegetarian/Vegan was unhealthy. This friend had no evidence to back up these thoughts except for what our society tells them to think. Another perfect puppet of society.

While being Vegetarian is generally healthier, I don't think there is a right or wrong answer to this topic because it all depends on the individual. Why? Because let's face it

, how many of your carnivorous friends eat their 8-12 servings of veggies a day? I know most of mine don't. And then if you're vegetarian it's equally important to make sure your diet contains the nutrients you might be lacking from meat-eating diet. So let's break it down shall we?

Benefits of a Vegetarian Diet:

Let's start with bringing a stop to the carnivore's generalization that being Vegetarian is unhealthy. Here are a few reasons why being a Vegetarian can be healthier.

Some studies show that veg

etarians suffer less from heart disease, some cancers, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes, and that they live longer than meat-eaters.

Other obvious benefits of being vegetarian is that their diet contains lower levels of saturated fat, cholesterol, and animal protein.

It also contains higher levels of carbohydrates, fiber, magnesium, potassium, folate, and antioxidants such as vitamins C and E and phytochemicals.

So then what could a vegetarian diet possibly be missing? Here are a few myths we'll put to bed.

NUTRIENTS Veggie VS Meat & Dairy:

There is the claim that a Vegetarian diet lacks certain nutrients and vitamins than that of a typical meat-eating dairy-consuming diet. Animal and dairy products are seen as a key source of Iron, Calcium, Vitamin B12 and Zinc. And then there's the commonly asked question of Protein, of course, because how on earth can you get protein without meat? Don't worry, I will get to that for the narrow-minded. As for the other nutrients, aside from the fact that most of them are now added to a variety of foods such as non-dairy milk products as well as cereals, they can also be easily found in other plant-sources. And guess what? These same nutrients are added to a large majority of products for you carnivores as well--guess you're not getting all your nutrients either then are you?

All the little myths and misconceptions aside, it really all comes down to having a healthy and balanced diet, and this goes for both Vegetarians/Vegans and Carnivores alike!

OMEGA 3:

Some argue that a vegetarian diet lacks Omega 3 (which is easily sourced from fish).

However, fish is not the sole sources of Omega 3, it is also fou

nd in a number of plant-based sources such as soy, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, canola oil, and especially flaxseed and hempseed. Problem solved.

PROTEIN & IRON:

I feel silly having to address the issue of protein, but I would enjoy bringing some enlightenment to this issue.

First off, on average people consume twice as much protein as we need. Not only is this certainly quite the waste of resources and dead animals, but consuming too much protein also puts stress on the Kidneys, and can cause B6 deficiencies because our bodies require this vitamin for protein intake.

Meat may be an easy source of protein but it is also an unhealthier choice. Humans are not carnivores by nature. We do not have the same digestive tract as other carnivores because we do not contain the same levels of hydrochloric acid as they do, and most of their digestion occurs in their stomachs, whereas ours is in the intestines. We can not completely digest animal protein like other carnivores can, which means chunks of undigested meat may stay inside your intestinal tract for anywhere from 20 to 48 hours--and if you're not healthy much longer. So quite literally, this meat is decaying inside of you and produces poisons that become pathogens and toxins within the body. Not to mention meat in the supermarket is colored with sodium nitrates and sodium nitrites to make it look appealing rather than its

natural gray-green color. These color additives are cancer-causers in humans. Meat is also full of antibiotics, sedatives, growth hormones, and chemical feed mixtures which are carried on into your body with consumption. These antibiotics kill off most of the good bacteria in your long intestinal tract. On top of that, some of that decaying meat will never leave your body and creates an inner lining on the intestinal wall which interferes with proper digestion.

While meat does contain about 5 to 10 times the amount of protein as most vegetable sources, since we over-consume protein as it is, we are eating much safer amounts when being veget

arian. And there are lots of good, healthy choices of Vegetable Protein that don't contain the same unhealthy cholesterol, and saturated fat levels of red meat. Take Quinoa for example, one cup contains about 28 grams of Protein. Or how about a cup of Lentils which contains 10 grams of protein. Other easy sources are beans, nuts, and even vegetables. While we're on the subject, the world's biggest and strongest animals, such as elephants, gorillas, and rhinos just to name a few, all build their strong bodies with vegetable protein.

Once again, balance is everything. And being vegetarian means you do still need to make sure you consume your average daily amount of protein, while you meat-eaters might want to be reducing yours. ~_^

You already know the problems with animal protein, so you understand you have the same issues to face for the consumption of Iron through meat-sources. And to put those rumors furthermore to rest, Vegetarians do not have a higher incidence of Iron deficiencies than Meat-eaters! Dried beans and dark leafy vegetables are especially good sources of Iron because Iron consumption is increased when consumed with foods containing vitamin C as well. You can also find good levels of Iron in chickpeas, spinach, pinto beans, and soy products. Once again, problem solved.

VITAMIN B12 and ZINC:

Vitamin B12 and Zinc are one area that require special attention for Vegetarian and Vegan Diets. Because these are not readily absorbed by the body from vegetarian sources, Vegans usually require a supplement. Vegetarians can still get this vital vitamin from Eggs and Dairy Products, and of course Meat-Eaters have the advantage with their carnivorous diets which all contain high amounts of B12 and Zinc. Don't begin to fret yet though fellow Vegans, B12 Can be found in other sources that allow you to still stay away from decaying flesh and baby cow's milk.

Vitamin B12 has been found in high levels in Nutritional Yeast; about 2 rounded teaspoons will provide your daily recommended intake. Both Vitamin B12 and Zinc are both now commonly supplemented in fortified milk & meat alternatives, as well as most cereals in the western world--always check the labels to check how much it contains. Of course, the easiest soluton is to take a supplement or multi-vitamin just to be safe. This is my preferred option and I recommend anyone take a daily multi-vitamin anyway to make certain they are getting all their daily vitamins and minerals. ^_^

CALCIUM:

You hear it all the time; adds on TV and on billboards are drilled into your brain on a daily basis...Milk is a good source of Calcium, and you need it to have strong bones. Well it wouldn't be a lie to say that this information is biased and inadequate. "The dairy industry and milk processors invest hundreds of millions of dollars each year to guarantee that Americans will continue to drink milk and eat dairy products, investing their money to continually let Americans know that milk tastes good and the intake of milk and dairy products must be continued to insure good health."

So now maybe you're thinking, What? It's not true? I don't NEED Milk for calcium? The fact of the matter is no, you most certainly do not. So then, no, Vegetarians do NOT lack Calcium!

Looking at this chart you'll notice that the first 7 foods listed are plant-based, while the dairy products are below and mixed in closely to a number of even more plant-based sources. Now, of course this chart is not a full list of calcium sources, but it's an example so stay with me here.

It's time to crush the rumors right?

Adequate amounts of Vegetables are BETTER Sources of Calcium than Milk and Cheese. And no, it's not just Kale and Broccoli, ALL vegetables contain calcium. Why is it better than Dairy products? Because plant-sourced Calcium stays in the bones and is more easily absorbed then the calcium found in milk products. Plant Proteins also do not result in calcium loss such as the way of Animal Protein (which, yes, of course is found in high amounts in milk products); Animal Protein has been shown to create calcium loss through the urinary tract, up to 50% of the consumed calcium.

So why is calcium loss a problem? Because it leads to osteoporosis, not a Lack of Calcium as we are led to believe. And so what's the difference between lack or loss? Calcium loss is all the excess calcium that doesn't get absorbed by the body. This excess Calcium then builds up on the arterial walls which becomes atherosclerotic plaque (Atherosclerotic heart disease is the leading cause of death in the US), and the excess calcium also contributes to arthritis.

So really we're just going in circles now aren't we? Which is really better? Stealing Milk and dairy from baby Cows which our body doesn't even absorb properly? Or naturally found calcium in plants that our body will more easily absorb? To me the answer to this is fairly obvious.

CONCLUSION:

While it is true that most Vegans/Vegetarians are generally more health-conscious people it is still in the hands of the beholder. A Vegetarian diet has many benefits over a Carnivorous diet when eating right and eating balanced. So you Carnivores can think what you like but the facts are there. It all depends from person to person. Take care of your body, exercise, watch what you eat and you will be healthier. Vegetarians and Vegans are some of the healthiest people in the world, keep that in mind the next time you decide to frown upon your Vegetarian and Vegan friends or encounters. ~_^
